The layout is fully sceniced, occupying numerous rooms of my basement. Two of the rooms of the layout are consumed by the somewhat prototypical Addison Branch of the Rutland railroad. The remainder of the layout is freelance 1950s New England branch lines. The Addison Division is a very rural branch line. This portion of the layout features two through mixed trains that become switchers for the terminal at the end of their run. There are also two way-freights covering the 6 intermediate villages. The "Hill Division" features small villages with numerous New England Mills as the primary shippers. All trains but one are captive to their respective branches, one train (turn) per branch. This is mostly shelf operation, with one nasty duck-under but isles are more generous. Four operators are consumed by the train assignments of the "Hill Division". Passengers are ignored most of the time. Maximum speed is 10mph. A third, or "Iron Division" occupies the usable modeling space of the laundry room and two former coal bins. Aisles are more generous here, but headspace requires one of the two operators to be seated. Again, these are fairly short runs with intense switching. Focus is on iron mining, with substantial local industry. One assignment switches the mines and the ore separator, while the other operator handles all other freight. Trains are mixed. Maximum speed is 10mph.
